The World's Deepest Marathon
They did it!

On Saturday, October 25, Marie-Cécile Febvey and Nicolas Maes completed the world’s deepest marathon in 4 hours, 10 minutes, and 12 seconds — inside the Garpenberg mine in Sweden, 1,120 metres below the Earth’s surface — with 70% humidity and a temperature of 23°C!

This athletic feat pushed each of the 60 participants to go beyond their own limits.

There was an exceptional sense of solidarity among the runners, as we all went through tough moments. The support from our Orano Mining colleagues truly helped Nicolas and me cross that finish line!
Marie-Cécile Febvey, Head of the Resources & Reconciliations Department, Orano Mining.

This extraordinary individual and collective achievement earned two Guinness World Records: the deepest marathon ever run, both individually and as a team!

It was also an opportunity to shine a light on the mine and the Orano Group for the general public.

Behind this challenge, we wish to enlighten the public on the reality of a mining industry that operates safely, responsibly, supportive, and with respect for the environment — an essential industry for meeting the major energy challenges of tomorrow
Nicolas Maes, Chief Executive Officer, Orano
