Nearly 60 participants from around the world, including Marie-Cécile Febvey (Mineral Resources Manager, Orano Mining) and Nicolas Maes (CEO, Orano), will embark on an unprecedent challenge: running a full 42 km
marathon along a tunnel 1,300 meters underground, navigating with a headtorch, in temperatures of up to 30°C and humidity close to 70%...
The formidable feat that Orano has set itself along with other representatives of the mining companies affiliated to the ICMM (International Coucil on Mining & Metals) aims above all to promote the mining sector, still little known
among the general public. It is an opportunity to shine a light on the engagement of mining companies, including Orano Mining, in favor of modern, responsible, and sustainable mining practices.
As a runner, each participant supports a solidarity initiative by committing to collect at least $30,000 for two causes:
"This marathon is much more than just a sporting challenge for me! Our goal is to help the most vulnerable and to change the public's perception of the mining industry. It is also an opportunity to highlight inspiring life stories, because working in the mining sector opens the door to many exciting endeavors, both technical and human." Marie-Cécile Febvey.
"This unique event illustrates our belief that performance is only meaningful if it is responsible, forward-looking and deeply human." Nicolas Maes.
