Throughout the day, young and old alike had the opportunity to explore behind the scenes of the plant and immerse themselves in the world of the training school, inaugurated in 2024, through guided tours.
“Friendly, family-oriented, and festive, this anniversary will remain engraved in our memories. It reflects our team spirit, our commitment, and our collective pride in keeping this exceptional and unique plant running,” said Arnaud Capdepon, Director of Orano Melox.
Since it began operations in March 1995, Orano Melox has been manufacturing MOX nuclear fuel assemblies, produced from depleted uranium and plutonium recovered from used fuel. These assemblies are used to power nuclear reactors in France
and abroad (Japan, the Netherlands, Germany…). Today in France, nearly one in ten light bulbs is powered thanks to MOX.
Nearly 1,500 people — including Orano employees and partner companies —
work every day on plutonium recycling at the heart of the Gard region.
Always focused on the future, Orano Melox continues its modernization with the GoMox project, launched in 2022 in partnership with Orano Projets. Three new machines will be installed by 2030 to secure MOX production and meet the world’s growing
energy needs in the decades to come.
