Franco-Japanese Teleoperation Competition: Highlights from the 2025 Edition at La Hague

From June 24 to 26, 2025, Orano’s La Hague site hosted the prestigious international teleoperation competition, the “MSM Operation Technique Competition", for the first time in France. Organized in partnership with J-TECH, a subsidiary of Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited (JNFL), the event brought together French and Japanese operators with one shared goal: to exchange expertise and push the boundaries of teleoperation.

An exceptional profession at the heart of the nuclear industry

Repairing, moving, or cutting irradiated materials in areas inaccessible to humans are activities Orano’s teleoperators perform on a daily basis. To carry out these delicate tasks, they rely on a highly sophisticated tool: the teleoperated arm. Acting as an extension of their own movements, it allows them to lift heavy loads while performing interventions with surgical precision.
This unique expertise, combining advanced technical mastery and extreme concentration, is crucial to ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations at nuclear sites. During this competition, these experts showcased their dexterity and exchanged best practices with their Japanese counterparts in an atmosphere that was both focused and friendly.

Launched in 2023 in Japan, the “MSM Operation Technique Competition” also embodies the spirit of collaboration between Orano and its Japanese partners. This 3rd edition was an opportunity to share best practices and strengthen technical and human ties between teams from both countries.
