Two truths and a lie: the quiz

For a year, I had the opportunity to simultaneously manage the materials team, which I was already responsible for, and the structural calculation team, replacing their manager during her maternity leave. This dual role allowed me to work closely with two complementary areas of expertise and to strengthen collaboration between the teams. A demanding but extremely stimulating experience that taught me a great deal on both a human and managerial level.

In my 17 years at Orano, I’ve had the opportunity to work in three different roles. I started as an engineer at the Beaumont Research Hall, where I worked for ten years. I then moved into roles in materials, first as an engineer and then as a national manager for a period of six years. Since the beginning of 2025, my career has taken a new turn as I’ve now become a project manager. Three different chapters, but always with the same motivation: to learn, develop and contribute to ambitious technical projects.

At the end of 2024, I was offered the position of deputy to the facility manager in the DAFC (End-of-Cycle Activities Department) on the La Hague site. In addition to the role of deputy, my duties included managing the Industrial Operator of Silo 130, the Industrial Operator of the asbestos laboratory and the monitoring team. At the age of just 26, I was therefore able to work on a large and challenging project with managerial responsibilities.

At Orano, work-study programs can be a real springboard towards employment. In 2025, 1 in 2 students were recruited by Orano on a permanent or fixed-term contract at the end of their studies. Each year, the group hosts around 600 work-study students who find support and an environment conducive to their development and career progression. A win-win contract!

During my work-study placement on the La Hague site, I worked on assignments related to performance and project management. After my recruitment, I collaborated for two years on the Convergence project set up to reorganize the La Hague site, which involved both support and operational functions. This opportunity allowed me to switch to new operation-related duties on the ground. It’s a great source of pride and fulfillment for me.

This assignment allowed me to adopt new working methods and immerse myself in a different professional environment. It allowed me to gain fresh perspective on the way we work in France, improve my English and develop my ability to adapt.
On my return, this experience was a defining factor in my rapid promotion to a project manager role, where I work on critically important strategic projects for the group.

This is a real achievement because thermal testing is a longstanding requirement in Japan. In the end, 10 of the 12 TN Eagle packages that will be loaded in Japan as part of the SF MOX project will not have been thermally tested before their first loading operation, and this is a first in Japan for transport packages. Thermal testing would have significantly impacted production flows in the TN Eagle Factory, as it requires additional operations in the plant and results in the production sequence of each package being interrupted by several weeks, therefore jeopardizing the delivery times of the project.

This is of course a collective success, in other words, helping to create consensus on the need to launch the Aval du Futur project. It’s the result of a long discussion process with the French government, EDF, the CEA and all of our stakeholders, which lasted almost a year. We were able to convince them that it was both the right time industrially to launch this vast project, and that the Orano group had the necessary skills to carry it out successfully. It’s a real source of pride to have been one of the first people to work on the project, to contribute to its launch and to have watched it grow at a crazy pace ever since!

I had the opportunity to present the Aval du Futur project in Vienna, Austria, at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency. In front of an international panel of around a hundred nuclear professionals, it was a real pleasure to see the enthusiasm that this type of project generates. The presentation helped me understand that the launch of Aval du Futur is a real milestone in the international revival of nuclear power… and the discussions that followed also made me realize how lucky we are to have this expertise.

The French government has consistently supported the nuclear sector, and in particular the development of the Orano group, in a context marked by the global revival of nuclear power. This is evidenced by the government’s publication of the new multi-year energy program (PPE3) and the latest guidelines from the French Nuclear Policy Council (CPN). They confirm the government’s commitment to the long-term future and development of the nuclear sector in order to guarantee competitive, sovereign and low-carbon electricity. The CPN has also confirmed programs aimed at modernizing and extending the lifespan of processing and recycling plants and recycled fuel fabrication facilities, as well as replacing them. This is the purpose of Aval du Futur, a project on an unprecedented scale, which will prepare the technologies, processes and infrastructure for the coming decades in order to eventually replace the current facilities at La Hague and Melox.
