WE ACT TO PROTECTTHE ENVIRONMENT

Our strategyFor many years, Orano has made environmental issues central
to its industrial activities in order to minimize its footprint on ecosystems.
Yes, you can work in nuclear and care about the environment.

Reduction in carbon footprint

-41%

in greenhouse gas emissions

linked to Orano activities
(scope 1 & 2 market-based)
since 2019.

Protecting the most remarkable areas

We do not permit any mining exploration in the most biodiversity-sensitive areas, classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites or Category I and Il by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

CONSUMINGWATERRESPONSIBLY

-47%

reduction in water consumption

since 2019 across all Orano facilities.

100%
OF OUR NEW INTERNATIONAL
MINING PROJECTS ARE SUBJECT TO A PRELIMINARY, VOLUNTARY AND BESPOKE ASSESSMENT.

PROMOTING SENSITIVE
LANDSCAPING ON OUR SITES

Several pilot initiatives have brought together design and landscape planning skills to create developments incorporating carbon and biodiversity criteria.
The objective? To ensure our sites are perfectly integrated into their environment.

+ 40,000 samples

taken annually around
Orano facilities.

+ 100,000 ANALYSES

per year.
We analyze the quality of groundwater and watercourses, air quality, radioactivity, fauna, flora and even cow’s milk!

ECO-DESIGN

100%

of our major
investment projects

(worth more than €20 million) now incorporate an eco-design policy to minimize their footprint.

In France, Orano applies the rule of

I TREE FELLED =
2 TREES REPLANTED

to guarantee positive compensation, which comes into force when the impacts of an industrial project are deemed inevitable, and result in the destruction of natural environments

Our nature
Strategy

aims to ensure harmonious coexistence between our activities and
environmental ecosystems.

100%
OF OUR SITES

of strategic importance will have a plan for
the responsible management of their green spaces
by 2030.

This concerns Orano sites located near areas of special ecological interest or involving the management of large
green spaces.

CONTRIBUTING TOTHE RESTORATIONOF ECOLOGICALAREAS

Around the world, we are recreating islands of nature.
In Kazakhstan, we are implementing a large-scale reforestation plan covering 12,000 hectares, the largest program of its kind in the south of the country.

802 TREES PLANTED ON THE TRICASTIN SITE

This initiative was inspired by the Miyawaki method, which consists of densely planting a wide variety of local species to create a resilient and self-sustaining forest ecosystem in just three years, offering rapid benefits for biodiversity, soil, insects, birds and air quality.

ALL OUR SITES HAVE A RECENT
FLORA AND FAUNA
INVENTORY WHICH IS USED TO MONITOR THE IMPACT OF OUR ACTIVITIES ON BIODIVERSITY.

RECREATING ECOLOGICAL
CORRIDORS

More than a kilometer of hedging has been planted on our Bessines site to support biodiversity and ecological restoration. The operation involved planting more than 700 species adapted to the Limousin region.
