Phase Two of Horizontal Storage Module Construction Completed
CHARLOTTE, N.C., November 26, 2013 – AREVA TN was awarded a $12 million contract by the Nebraska Public Power District’s (NPPD) Cooper Nuclear Power Plant to supply dry shielded canisters for the safe storage of used nuclear fuel.
The AREVA TN NUHOMS® 61BTH canisters are designed to handle high heat loads and safely store up to 61 used fuel assemblies from a boiling water reactor. AREVA TN’s North Carolina-based subsidiary, Columbiana Hi Tech, LLC, will manufacture the canisters, which are scheduled to be delivered before the end of 2015.
Additionally, AREVA TN is currently constructing the Cooper plant’s horizontal storage module (HSM) that will store the NUHOMS® canisters at the Cooper plant’s Independent Spent Fuel Storage Facility.
