Under general supervision, the Nuclear System Safety Engineer performs a variety of engineering, design, and licensing tasks including, but not limited to performing criticality analysis calculations in support of design, development, and licensing; prepares nuclear analysis calculations in support of the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) and or technical reports as part of licensing submittals to the NRC. Reviews progress and updates management, as needed.
 

Objectives:

1.       Performs Process Hazard Analysis, Criticality Hazard Analysis, Hazard Analysis, External Hazard Analysis.

2.       Performs a variety of more complex engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing and preparation of specifications.

3.       Receives minimal assistance and instruction on most assignments and solutions.

4.       Ensures compliance with government, organization, and customer engineering standards and procedures.

5.       Independently evaluates, selects, and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment to solve complex problems.

6.       Develops new or adapted products, methods, systems, or models to provide added value solutions to customers.

7.       Researches and assesses best practices, proposes methods and improvements.

8.       Performs other related duties, and tasks, as required.

Ideal qualifications

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this   opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher-level position.

BS in Engineering or other technical field, plus 5-7 years related experience.

An advanced degree (MS or MBA) may substitute for 1-2 years and (PhD) may substitute for 2-3 years of related work experience.

In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4-year engineering degree.

Differentiating Qualifications:

Experience with IROFS, ISA, ISA Summaries, Safety Analysis Report (SAR), HAZOP, Risk Determination, NRC 10CFR70 License application process.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques, and criteria.
  • Strong knowledge of computer codes (SCALE, MONK, MCNP) for performing criticality and shield calculations.
  • General understanding of the principals of nuclear engineering as it relates to reactor physics and radiation transport.  
  • Good communication skills and the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
  • Ability to maintain and develop strong interpersonal relationships.

Please Note: The provided salary information is a guideline. Your offered salary is based upon experience, qualifications, geographic location, as well as market and business considerations.

Salary range annually: $120-150K
