Job description

Join an exciting career with Orano where you’ll play a crucial role in groundbreaking exploration projects. Under the guidance of the Project Geologist, you will provide essential technical support, including collecting and interpreting field data, managing drill core samples, and completing physical measurements on drill core. You’ll gain hands on experience working in remote locations and spend time in our beautiful Saskatoon office. Responsibilities include: 

·         Work on any designated Orano exploration project(s), in accordance with the Project Geologist

·         Provide logistical and technical support for exploration/development programs as directed by the Project Geologists. These duties include, but are not limited to:

o    Collect and interpret field data primarily related to the logging of drill core and down hole probing data;

o    Enter data in project database;

o    Assist with daily core handling functions (measuring, sampling, photography, moving full core boxes etc.);

o    Infrared Spectrometry measurements on drill core (TerraSpec) and other physical property measurements;

o    Provides as required written / oral presentation of results: maps, sections, tables, etc.;

o    May be required to assist the Project Geologist in supervision of geo-technicians and/or contractors; and

o    Assist with spotting drill holes and flagging trails as necessary.

·         Must be fully aware of role and responsibilities as defined in the Integrated Management System (Corporate and Exploration) and support files

·         Must comply with the health, safety, environment and radiation protection requirements in force at Orano Canada Inc; will enforce them with Exploration workers and contractors, as applicable

 

Work Location & Schedule: 

·         Primarily based in Saskatoon, with work split between the Core Logging Facility and the Saskatoon Corporate Office. The role also includes periodic field assignments in Alberta

·         Normally an 8 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required

·         This position requires moderate physical ability with ability to work in difficult and isolated conditions

Ideal qualifications

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

·         University degree in Geology (B.Sc., M.Sc.)

·         Registered, or the ability to register with APEGS, APEGA or another provincial equivalent

·         Solid background in geology, sedimentology, and geochemistry

·         Must understand geology of uranium prospects and deposits within sedimentary basins

·         Uranium exploration field experience is a strong asset

·         Good computer skills are essential; familiarity with AcQuire, WellCad, Oasis Montaj and Microsoft Office are an asset

·         Valid Class 5 driver’s license

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Must be discovery oriented / motivated

·         Be scientific and logical, able to summarize large amount of data

·         Good decision making abilities

·         Excellent social skills and ability to work in a team environment
