Job description

You’ll provide vital logistical and technical support, from handling drill core activities and data, to managing equipment and ensuring quality control. What you’ll accomplish: 

·         Contribute to Orano’s exploration projects, under the guidance of Project Geologists and/or the Senior Geo-Technician

·         Provide logistical and technical support for exploration and development programs, including, but not limited to:

o     Assisting with drill core related activities (measuring, labelling, radiometry, moving full core boxes)

o     Down hole probing data acquisition

o     Probing data QA/QC

o     Probing data processing & interpretation

o     Infrared Spectrometry measurements on drill core (TerraSpec)

o     Physical property measurements on drill core (density, resistivity, magnetic susceptibility)

o     QA/QC of infrared spectrometry and physical property results

o     Computer data entry into the project database

o     Providing written / oral presentation of results, as required

·         Support Saskatoon office and exploration warehouse projects by carrying out logistical and technical tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to:

o     Maintaining the efficiencies of the Exploration warehouse in the shipment, receiving, maintenance, and storage of exploration equipment/supplies

o     Maintaining inventory lists, maintenance checklists, and instrumentation log books

o     Assisting with annual calibration checks of radiometric probes and radiometric equipment

·         Comply with the health, safety, environment and radiation protection requirements at Orano Canada Inc. and promote adherence to them with exploration workers and contractors, as applicable

 

Work Location & Schedule: 
·         Partially a field-based position in Northern Saskatchewan working at remote exploration camps or mine sites on a two to three-week in / one-week out rotation during field programs
·         Partially based at Saskatoon Corporate Office or Exploration warehouse
·         Normally an 8-10 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
·         This position requires moderate physical ability with ability to work in difficult and isolated conditions

Ideal qualifications

Qualifications and skills we’re seeking:

·         Geophysical/Geological technologist or technician diploma

·         Previous experience working at exploration sites and/or logistically difficult areas is an asset

·         Mechanical/electronic knowledge and skills considered an asset

·         Excellent computer skills; familiarity with Geosoft, WellCAD, AcQuire, and Microsoft Excel would be considered an asset

·         Ability to work in physically difficult and isolated conditions

·         Valid Class 5 driver’s license

·         Experience operating snowmobiles/ATVs is considered an asset

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Good organizational skills, task-oriented and rigorous approach required

·         Excellent social skills and ability to work in a team environment
