By recycling, Orano recovers useful materials (uranium and plutonium) from spent fuel and reuses them in new fuels such as MOX, and thus in nuclear reactors.
Orano’s technologies allow 96% of spent nuclear fuel from the reactors to be recycled. The 4% of final waste is conditioned to make it safe and stable.
Today, 10% of the nuclear-generated electricity in France comes from recycled material. In future, with the multi-recycling currently under R&D, this figure will reach around 30%. Orano’s know-how is recognized internationally and is good for export.
