Job description

Welcome to Orano Group!

Orano TN Americas, a subsidiary of Orano USA and premier provider of storage and transportation of spent nuclear fuel and other radioactive materials, is seeking an Engineer I. The position will be based in Columbia, MD, with some occasional travel expected to the Kernersville, NC office.

The ideal candidate has a working understanding of the engineering design process and of welding processes, including non-destructive examinations.  

This qualified individual will be responsible for the following tasks related to NUHOMS® Dry Shielded Canisters, NUHOMS® onsite transfer casks, TN metal storage casks, transport packages, and spent fuel racks:

  • Perform standard engineering assignments, typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation,
    testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
  • Receive assistance and instructions on unusual or more complex features and possible solutions, as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
  • May independently evaluate, select and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria using
    judgement in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform design work using supplied data and markups utilizing theoretical and practical engineering knowledge.
  • Develop proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD software.
  • Prepare drawings, layouts and sketches under moderate supervision using CAD workstations and appropriate design criteria and technical manuals.
  • Work closely with fabrication engineers to ensure and optimize fabricability of designs, and to help resolve fabrication issues.
  • Ensure conformance to applicable standards and codes as well as company procedures and policies.
  • Apply advanced techniques in CAD and standard design applications utilizing CAD equipment.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing to designs and drawings.
  • Work on special projects, as directed.

Please Note: The provided pay information is a guideline. Your offered salary is based upon experience, qualifications, geographic location, as well as market and business considerations.
Pay Range: $75,000-$85,000

Ideal qualifications

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this   opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher-level position.

BS in Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 0 -2 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.

 


The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position:

  • Knowledge of American Welding Society’s standard “Symbols for Welding, Brazing and Nondestructive Examination” (AWS A2.4).
  • Experience performing structural stress analyses.
  • Experience working with a Product Data Management tool (such as SolidWorks PDM).
  • Experience programming with Python language.
