Job description

        Orano Canada is a leading producer of uranium in Canada, working to power the future with clean energy! If you are excited about this opportunity, we encourage you to apply!

Plan, coordinate, and supervise activities of the Chemical Laboratories. Supervise the testing of a variety of samples taken from various stages of the mine and plant process to provide information for mining, process, and environmental control.

·         Work collaboratively with the Technical Superintendent, on any changing test procedures, purchasing equipment and organizing special projects, or when major actions are required, he/she consults and works with the Technical Superintendent.

·         Define and set up organization and analytical standards to maintain laboratory accreditation.

·         Improve analytical efficiency, accuracy, safety, or cost efficiency by developing new analytical procedures and technics. Prepare associated documentation.

·         Perform all analysis in accordance with established test procedures, and in an accurate and timely fashion. Operate all equipment within specified guidelines, trouble-shoot to correct problems and report significant deviations. Confirm analytical accuracy and perform extensive calibration procedures. Record in the communications book all pertinent instructions and correspondence.

·         Maintain proper use of StarLIMS in the mill IS environment, to archive results and communicate results to other departments. Work with Metallurgy department for any communication with OSISoft software.

·         Competent with all test procedures, equipment and perform analysis as required and responsible for proper equipment operation and maintenance, with the support of ICP and XRF suppliers.

·         Provide coaching to the laboratory supervisors and when necessary, train the laboratory technicians to enable them to attain standards of quality and productivity.

·         Ensure that adequate supplies and materials are available for the operation of the laboratory.

·         Foster effective communication and collaboration on site as primary laboratory representative.

·         Manage the laboratory within the operating budget to promote overall cost effectiveness and expense requests

·         Perform other work assignments as required.

Ideal qualifications

 

Technical Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

·         University Chemistry or related graduate or Chemical Technology graduate

·         10 years of laboratory experience including 5 years of supervisory in an industrial or commercial settings is preferred

·         Knowledge using an ICP-MS and X-ray Spectrometer

·         Experience with (or the ability to learn) general business software programs such as Word, Excel and SAP is required

·         Prior experience with PI Vision and DeltaV in an operational environment is as asset

·         Knowledge and application of Operational Excellence tools is an asset

·         Must have good communication skills, both orally and written

·         Proven leadership skills are essential, typically demonstrated through previous supervisory roles or experience as a lead hand

·         Comfortable working in an industrial plant and laboratory environment

·         Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
