Orano USA confirms receipt of a notification from NNSA to terminate for government’s convenience the MFFF contract (*). The termination follows a certification submitted to the Committee on Armed Services by the secretary of energy in May 2018, which provided a justification for pursuing an alternative method for disposal of the plutonium currently stored at the Savannah River site.
As a minority partner in the MOX Services consortium building the MFFF, Orano is pleased with NNSA’s commitment to the workers and the community as indicated in its October 10 statement “NNSA is committed to supporting the current workforce and will work with MOX Services throughout this transition process to reduce short-term impacts to workers, the surrounding community, and the state of South Carolina.”
As such Orano is committed to remain flexible and supportive to NNSA in the transition planning and execution, which is critical to many stakeholders and will cover a number of issues including workers, subcontractors, disposition of equipment, proprietary technologies, record keeping, and pending claims.
(*) As a reminder, Orano is the supplier of core process glove box technology for the MFFF, and has already delivered 90% of the plants' total glove boxes. The payment for those glove boxes is made.
